This Wednesday Wanderings post takes me to the Iowa State Fair. My first trip was on Friday night to see a show by my friends The Nadas. Before I left on Friday night, I already knew I was going to make a second trip, but this time I would have my camera with me.
Monday was absolutely beautiful – a great day to adventure around the fairgrounds. One of my favorite things at the Fair (besides a pickle dawg) is to take a ride on the Sky Glider. The views are incredible, and each ride allows you to slow down and just take it all in.
Even though none of my photos were selected this year, I am already excited for next year’s photography contest. The theme is silhouettes – something I love to photograph. I was very inspired by all of the photo entries this year. Be sure to stop by the Patty and Jim Cownie Cultural Center to see the selected photos on display – some really amazing work this year! This includes a photo from our very own Jeff Johnson – congratulations, Jeff!
Iowa State University has a booth in the Varied Industries building with a display of all alumni living in the state of Iowa. I found my name along with four other alums named Amanda Miller. I personally know one of them (we roomed together for a week at Girls State in high school). I knew of another Mandy Miller at Iowa State (she was a Gamma Phi and I was a KD). The other two? I’m sure they are also lovely.
What is your favorite part of the Fair?
