I grew up in a really small town (less than 250 people). One thing I always notice when I’m back home is when I’m driving… almost everyone waves at everyone else. Most often it’s just the one (index) finger wave – some refer to this as a “farmer finger wave”. Now that I’ve been living in Des Moines for a while, I forget that this still happens these days. Today I took a drive down I-35 south and went on a little photo adventure. As soon as I turned off of the interstate, it happened. Someone waved at me.
I’m sure there is someone reading this – laughing because they know exactly what I’m talking about.
Another thing I miss about living in a small town? The stars.
I miss looking up to the brilliantly-lit, star-filled sky and seeing all of the different constellations. In Des Moines, the sky is bright from the lights of the city – not from the stars.
What do you miss about the place you grew up?
Have fun wherever your wanderings may take you!
