Favorite Verse: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

Isaiah 26:3

Why this verse is important to Julie:
During college, my parents marriage fell apart to the point of disrepair. I remember getting a phone call from my dad and sobbing in my dorm room while I pictured my family and my life as I knew it falling apart. One day, with the news of my parents’ impending separation on my mind, I sat in a pensive mood while eating in our college cafeteria. One of the new professors at the time sat across from me and struck up a conversation with me. Before long, I ended up telling him about my parents. He told me to look up Isaiah 26:3 when i returned to my dorm room.

When I looked up that passage, it changed my life. It wasn’t a fast change, but a slow one. I began to realize that bad things WILL happen and I can’t always control them. I can give in to despair and anxiety, or instead, I can choose PEACE. However, the peace that truly settles one’s spirit is the PERFECT peace that only God can give. The only way we will feel or know that peace is by choosing to TRUST in God.

Over the past several years since college, my life has been filled with many mountaintop experiences, but also many walks through desolate valleys. In each of those times, I have been reminded of Isaiah 26:3. My hope, my trust, and all I can depend upon is in the Lord! Hard times may come, but God offers His peace….His PERFECT peace to me, as long as I trust in Him.
