Favorite verse(s): This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24 (NLT)

Why this verse is important: Growing up, this verse was a common table prayer said at our house. It was repeated over and over, for years and years, often without much effort. But as with God, repetition of Scripture doesn’t just become like remembering your credit card info when ordering something online, or recalling all of your kids’ birthdays when making doctor’s appointments for them (it feels like cracking the code of a safe!) His Word is alive within us, and provides us with what we need to hear, when we need it.

Being at home, there are fulfilling and adventurous and rewarding days. There are also difficult, lonely, ‘who am I?’ days. This verse reminds me that no matter what the days look like, no matter the mood, stress or tension, God says that He is Creator of the day, and because of that simple fact, we ought to be joyful. We ought to smile. We ought to shake off whatever holds us back from the fact we are living in His day, the day He created and designed for us.

A spirit of thankfulness and trust rises within me when I’m reminded that He’s in charge of my day, not me. I can receive that truth and make a choice to let go of control. I can accept what is to come, knowing He’s leading me.

This is the day the Lord has made. Lay down your fears and talk to me.

This is the day the Lord has made. You have purpose and worth, so come forth and celebrate the life I’ve given you.
